Easy Halloween Costumes– Just add Steampunk!

If you’re looking for ideas on how to add a little Steampunk to your Halloween costume this year, here are some costumes that you may already have in your closet, and how to make them pop with some dynamite Steampunk accessories!

Steam-Pirate

This is a great costume for both men and women. Do you have plain black pants or leggings? Do you have a pair of black shoes or knee- high Fall/Winter boots? Do you have an ordinary white shirt, a belt, and a scarf? Congratulations, you’re a pirate! You can feel free to experiment with different colors, or layering some skirts,  but now that you’ve got the basic costume you can give it some Steampunk flavor by adding these pirate goggles. Other  accessory options include ordinary winter leather gloves, bronze jewelry (pirates wore their wealth!), and most craft stores sell light weight decorative birds that can keep you company on your shoulder as you’re marauding for candy.

Amelia Earhart

This feisty aviatrix is always a great, simple costume for ladies and instantly recognizable. Fitted kakis, a brown jacket over a white shirt, and knee high boots topped with a long white scarf takes care of the basic costume. The finishing touch to really make this one pop is a good set of aviator goggles.

Doctor Frankenstein

Were you inspired by featured image of a steampunk Frankenstein in this post? Are you interested in the mysteries of life, or just unleashing your inner monster at a Halloween bash?  Your basic costume is black slacks, a white button down shirt, and black dress shoes.  Simple, right? Now, to really sell it add a pair of these goggles with red lenses with a plain, simple, full-body cooking apron (how messy it is is totally up to you!). A pair of simple black leather gloves adds a nice touch. Don’t forget to muss your hair!

Alice in Steampunk Land

This is a little more adventurous but still doable. A spring dress in pretty much any style will do as long as you go in a light blue direction.  Add white stockings, plain black flats, and a simple white apron for your basic Alice. For the Steampunk edge these black steampunk glasses are a perfect accessory. You can also get creative with Alice’s headband and perhaps opt for a tiny Steampunk top hat with a Queen of Hearts playing card tucked into the band. A small plastic vile from a craft store filled with colored liquid and labeled “Drink me” around your neck completes the look.

Cyborg Cowboy

Out of the west came a man…well, half man, half robot.  Start off with a white or brown shirt, brown slacks, and brown shoes (cowboy boots are a nice touch but not essential) Next, add a long brown coat and a wide brimmed hat to give a weary western feel. Finally, this incredible illuminated monocle turns an ordinary cowboy drifter into a bio-mechanical Steampunk officer of justice! You can also get some old nerf guns and add a coat of silver and brown paint to make sure your lawman has the right tools for the job. Finish it off with a harmonica. Why not let people see your softer side?
